Ketamine depression improvement

If you believe ketamine may be appropriate for you, please contact Dr. Hodges via this website or call 319-531-7987.

Consultations are $100 and are mandatory to determine if ketamine is appropriate for you, evaluate for safety, and determine any reasons ketamine may not be safe for you.  The infusion consent and discharge instructions will be reviewed at this visit. If you have a referring physician, we will request documents detailing diagnosis and medications.  No detailed notes pertaining to counseling, therapy, etc will be requested.

We are proud to be offering ketamine infusions in the Cedar Rapids area.

How Ketamine Works

Ketamine is used in low doses in our office to shut down overactive neurons and help make your brain healthier.  Research studies show improvement in 60-70% of patients who are treated with this medication.  A series of IV infusions is used to alleviate symptoms of depression, chronic pain and other mood disorders.

  •  For depression you will receive 6 treatments over 2-4 weeks.
  • Migraines are treated typically in one visit.
  • Chronic pain conditions usually require multiple visits several days in a row.   This is determined case by case.

Ketamine will very rapidly improve your symptoms, allowing you to no longer struggle to get through your day.  It is our hope that you can take advantage of your improvement to start doing those things on a daily basis that you need to do to take care of your health and mental wellness.

The Infusion Experience

Once deemed appropriate for infusions, your appointments will be scheduled.  On the day of your infusion, you will be given a chance to ask questions.  Your driver will be documented, as infusions will be cancelled without a driver.  You will be attached to a heart monitor to keep track of your heart rhythm, blood pressure, and the amount of oxygen in your blood.  You will then have your IV inserted and your infusion will begin.  Once the infusion is complete, you will typically rest quietly while things return to normal.  This takes anywhere from 10-30 minutes.  Once you are able to walk, and your driver is present, you will be discharged to home.
